DOGE considering using AI to eliminate half of all federal regulations

Could AI Really Cut Half of Government Regulations? (And Should It?)

So, someone just suggested using AI to wipe out half of all federal regulations. Yeah, you read that right—half. It sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie where robots take over, but instead of enslaving humanity, they just… delete paperwork.

The idea comes from (who else?) Doge, the meme-loving CEO of Tesla and X, who’s apparently floating the idea of AI streamlining bureaucracy. On paper, it makes sense. Governments pile up rules faster than my laundry pile, and a lot of them are outdated, contradictory, or just plain unnecessary. If AI could scan, analyze, and prune the worst offenders, maybe things would run smoother.

But here’s the catch: AI doesn’t understand nuance. It can flag redundancies or outdated laws, but should a machine decide what’s “useless” when real people’s lives are affected? Think about workplace safety rules or environmental protections—some might seem annoying until they’re the only thing keeping toxic waste out of your backyard.

Plus, who programs the AI? What biases slip in? If an algorithm trained on corporate efficiency recommendations starts slashing regulations, will it prioritize profits over people?

It’s a wild idea, and honestly, I’m torn. Less red tape sounds amazing, but handing the scissors to an AI feels like trusting a self-driving car to navigate a minefield blindfolded. What do you think—smart solution or disaster waiting to happen?
