The End of Work as We Know It

AI Is Coming for Our Jobs—But It Doesn’t Have to Be a Disaster

You’ve seen the headlines: “AI will replace millions of jobs.” “Robots are taking over.” It’s easy to spiral into panic mode, imagining a future where humans are obsolete. But here’s the thing—this doesn’t have to end badly. The real question isn’t whether AI will change work (it already is). It’s whether we’ll let it change what it means to be human.

The Warning Signs Are Here

Companies aren’t just using AI to make work easier—they’re using it to cut jobs, fast. One consultant put it bluntly: “I’m hired by CEOs to figure out how to use AI to cut jobs. Not in ten years. Right now.”

That’s chilling, but it’s not the whole story. The problem isn’t AI itself; it’s how we’re choosing to use it. We’re building systems that treat workers as expendable, reinforcing the idea that their humanity is replaceable. And that’s a dangerous path.

The Fork in the Road

This doesn’t have to be a dystopia. We have choices:
Laws with teeth: Regulations that protect workers, not just profits.
Real safety nets: Systems that can handle mass job transitions without leaving people behind.
Valuing “human” work: Recognizing that caregiving, creativity, and community-building can’t be automated—and paying accordingly.

The future isn’t set in stone. We could end up in a world where AI frees us from drudgery, giving us more time for meaningful work and connection. Or we could let it deepen inequality and erode what makes work meaningful in the first place.

What Now?

The clock is ticking. If we wait too long, the decisions will be made for us. So here’s my question for you: What kind of future do you want? One where work is a race to the bottom, or one where technology actually makes life better for everyone?

Let’s not wait to find out.
